S&D Group statement on Honduras
The S&D Group is deeply concerned that Honduras is considering approving a law that would criminalise the use of the morning-after pill, even for women who have been victims of sexual violence. This law would also allow the imprisonment of doctors or anyone who sells the pill.
S&D co-ordinator for foreign affairs, Ana Gomes, today urged the Honduran Congress not to criminalise methods of contraception, to reject this law and to fully respect women's rights to reproductive and sexual health. "Contraception is not a crime and this measure is completely disproportionate. If the Congress does pass the law, the European Union would be bound to respond in the context of its external human rights policy."
