1. The conclusions of the assessment carried out by the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), i.e. by the Spanish nuclear safety regulator, are publicly available(1). They are from 3 February 2016.

2. The Portuguese Parliament resolution referred to in the question and reported in the press is addressed to the Portuguese Government. No evidence of non-compliance with the Nuclear Safety Directive(2) has emerged since our answer of 25 April 2016 to Written Question E-002071/2016.

3. The Nuclear Safety Directive of 25 June 2009, which had to be transposed by 22 July 2011, already contains the main principles governing nuclear safety and ensuring its continuous improvement. Its correct implementation in the Member States is being followed by the Commission. At the same time, the prevention and mitigation of nuclear accidents referred to in the question stems from the nuclear safety objective enshrined in the amended Nuclear Safety Directive(3). Pursuant to Article 2 of the amending Directive, Member States shall bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with it by 15 August 2017. Consequently, the checking of the adequate implementation of the amended Directive's obligations in the Member States, including of the safety objective for nuclear installations, will start thereafter. In addition, the Commission may discuss implementation measures with Member States before that date, and provide appropriate guidance where necessary, for instance through workshops on transposition.
